Aries Release Party @ The Pilot Light, Knoxville, TN – 4.6.2013

The flier above pretty much explains it all, but let’s get redundant…

Aries, the new album from Arrison Kirby, will be released everywhere digitally and in limited physical form on April 2nd.

Four days later, on April 6th, we will be celebrating that release with a party at the Pilot Light in Knoxville’s Old City.

At this event, Obadiah will be reforming to perform the entire Aries album from start to finish.  Dustin Milotte (Deep Green, Hypenkrunk) will be joining on guitar.  Jakob Esaw (who will be also celebrating a birthday that night), will also be contributing to the set’s closer.

Before all this, we will be treated to a set from Sidecar Symposium.

And we will end the night with a dance party, courtesy of Nathan Moses with an all vinyl, soul and psychedelia DJ set.

Your master of ceremonies for the evening will be comic Jeff Blank.

You can check out “Scrappy,” the first single from Aries, here:

Only come if you like music and good times!

Hypenkrunk, I Octopus, Sidecar Symposium & James Drown @ The Longbranch Saloon, Knoxville, TN – 10.18.2012

This will be the first public, Knoxville performance for Hypenkrunk, I Octopus and Sidecar Symposium, with an introduction to the night from James Drown.

After a word from Mr. Drown, Sidecar Symposium will take the stage for the debut of their Vaudevillian aural workings.  Sidecar features members of Never Sorry, Boozehound Gandydance, and Kamuy, among others.

After they get us moving, we will next be treated to I, Octopus, an experimental jazz/prog import, coming to our town by way of New Orleans.  This will be their first time playing in Knoxville.

The evening will top off with the trap and bounce stylings of Hypenkrunk.  Their live electronic blend, with the verbal stylings of MC Realtree, will keep you dancing until last call.

Truly, there will be something for everyone.

Wander the Silence – 5.11.2011 – Arrison Kirby, Samuel Williams and Lulu Skidoo

Click to download the tracks:

“Afraid of the Ghost”
“Michael in the War”
“Dead”
“Teamworking”
“Until I Die (Rum Blues)”

Instead of tuning up the piano, Samuel tuned his banjo to match the piano.  The result is this macabre and winding session of standards.  It’s another really minimal session, as well.

Lulu Skidoo (aka Michelle Sanders) joins us again for “Until I Die.”  This is the first version we had tried on any keys at all, let alone an actual piano.

“Teamworking” is the only new song here and is most likely incomplete, but still worth sharing, I guess.  It’s about a person getting involved in someone else’s new relationship.

Arrison Kirby –piano, vocals
Samuel Williams – banjo, vocals
Michelle Sanders – vocals

Some Business Here – 5.18.2011 – Never Sorry [Arrison Kirby, Katie Collins, Megan Driscoll, Rachel Jae, Dane Hill & Michelle Sanders]

Click to download the tracks:

Trimper Rides, Ocean City, Maryland

“President Elect”
“Trimpers (Beach)”
“Dead”
“House of Satan”
“Until I Die (Rum Blues)”
“Laundry”
“Fuck City”
“Michael in the War”
“Trimpers (Ocean)”

This was the first session we had with this many people since Le Carnival des Autres.  In other words, this was our first slide back into our beloved full on electro rockin’ sound.  Samuel didn’t make it to this one, but Michelle Sanders joined us for an amped up version of “Until I Die (Rum Blues)”.

There are a couple of jams, “President Elect” and “Fuck City.”  The latter being the looser and more amusing.  There are also a couple different versions of “Trimpers” here.  Both incorporating synth bass, but two very different styles.  Also, note the new song, “Laundry.”  I began writing that one about [some chick] but wasn’t able to finish it until it became applicable to [a different chick].  I think it has a Talking Heads feel to it.

Katie Collins – omnichord, ukulele
Megan Driscoll –  flute, tambourine, vocals
Dane Hill – drums, bass, vocals
Rachel Jae – auxillary percussion, vocals
Arrison Kirby – guitar, keys, beats, vocals
Michelle Sanders – vocals

“Until I Die (Rum Blues)” by Never Sorry with Lulu Skidoo – at Le Carnival des Autres – 1010 Gallery, Knoxville, TN – 5.6.2011

This weekend, Never Sorry played a crossdressed acoustic set at Le Carnival des Autres at 1010 Gallery in Knoxville.  In this video, we are joined by Lulu Skidoo (aka Michelle Sanders) for this performance of “Until I Die (Rum Blues).”  She wrote these lyrics.  Myself and Megan Driscoll fleshed out the music.  Then, obviously, everyone else together brought it into form.

This video was filmed by Maurita Roman. I have at least one more good recorded excerpt from the show and it will likely get posted soon.  For now though…
