It’s been a minute, but this is the Never Sorry rehearsal for our show that occurred at the Pilot Light in Knoxville, TN on March 23rd, 2012.  It’s actually a selection of takes from three different sets that occurred between two sessions on March 21st and 22nd.  Most of these songs had never been played live or even put up on the website from former sessions.

A lot of punk and rock opera type influences seem to seep through here.  We were very fortunate to have Jay Allen joining us on drums for this one.  It’s also very likely this session may get remixed, remastered and formally released as a proper album at some point in the future of the El Deth discography.

A good handful of this material is but a small portion of the cathartic discharge of a highly sadistic, disturbing, romantic relationship that dominated my 2011.  A lot of the sour blood spillage from that relationship ended up splattering on to some of my deeper friendships.  That aspect is where “Silver and Gold” comes from.  “Rachel and Dee Dee” is also about two friends of mine taking issue with some aspect of our friendship, but it was written back in 2010.

“Train to Nagano” reaches back to my solo album, Part 3.  Though strangely, Dane began playing this progression at one rehearsal, without ever having heard the previously published version.  On the playback, I realized it was the exact same song.  So here it is with the full band treatment.

The closing track, “Randy Scouse Git” is a cover of a Monkees song.  We had this in the works when Davey Jones died, making it particularly, but sadly, suitable for the set.  As far as songs from that era go, this one is pretty forward thinking.

COP is a session project by Arrison Kirby (Never Sorry, Obadiah), Wesley Wyrick (DolphynRydyr, Star Mountain) and SK (The Glaring Sound).   

 Urgency was recorded at El Studio, Knoxville, TN in 2010 and subsequently edited, mixed and mastered by Arrison Kirby.  The name is a true reflection of the form; as this session was recorded in a single, very, very loud take.  By the second track, “Botched Operation,” the force of the sound was shaking beer bottles off the back of the studio’s piano.  Undeterred, the trio pressed on through these five movements of sound, their order on the disc being no different from the order recorded.

 This disc marks the fifteenth release from the El Deth recording label.  It will be digitally available on Spotify, iTunes  and all other major online distributors on December 27^th, 2011.  The track, “Money Games” is currently available for free MP3 download at www.eldeth.com.

Here is a mix that is fitting for today, the ten year anniversary of the World Trade Center bombing in New York.  It’s not a bunch of country songs, but something a little deeper than kickin’ Sadam’s ass.  I bet your foot would go right through his ass at this point, anyway.

I wanted to make a mix that was spiritual, political, emotional, dark and beautiful at once.  Something to usher in the fall and its massive push of death and loss in nature, hence around us.  I aimed for this mix to express some endearment for the finite, in general, when relative to a world of suffering and pain.  There should be peace in knowing that all things shall pass…not fear.

The whole idea of “never forget,” however, is counter to this notion.  Do we really want that to be our mantra in relation to a national tragedy?  We are holding this against you forever?  Transformation does not always have to be a harsh lesson, especially ten years later.

This is the first show Obadiah will have played together in about five years.  When the offer came through (not a week before the show), we all figured, “why not?”  I don’t think any of us were certain as to what exactly was going to happen at our first scheduled session / rehearsal.  That being the past now, I would say that it feels as if we never stopped in the first place.  I won’t say that, though, because I feel we are all actually much better musicians now with a more mature sound then what it was when we left off.

This is likely going to be a rare one off as drummer, Josh Russell, will be shipping out to Oregon in just a few weeks.  So come on down and see what Obadiah has become.  You will not be disappointed.

This weekend, Never Sorry played a crossdressed acoustic set at Le Carnival des Autres at 1010 Gallery in Knoxville.  In this video, we are joined by Lulu Skidoo (aka Michelle Sanders) for this performance of “Until I Die (Rum Blues).”  She wrote these lyrics.  Myself and Megan Driscoll fleshed out the music.  Then, obviously, everyone else together brought it into form.
